Final Ethnographic Paper DUE 12/14 (Late Papers will not be Accepted)

NOTE: Late Papers will NOT be accepted/ SUBMIT VIA BLACKBOARD ASSIGNMENTS.

Basics:
-Minimum 4 pages
-double spaced
-new times roman, 12 font
-use formatting you are familiar with for citations ect (ex APA, MLA... Officially anthropology uses http://www.aaanet.org/publications/style_guide.pdf)
- You are encouraged to cite relevant materials from the course/ outside sources.

 Guidelines/ Suggestions:

Step 0: Do not wait until the last minute.  The week of 5/5 is a busy one, the original due date for this paper was 4/30... it might be a good idea to have it done, or at least drafted by then.

1: What is your paper about? Is there a guiding question you are answering regarding your field site? Your paper should have a point that it is trying to prove/ show (also known as a thesis). What have you learned about your space? "Space X provides a safe space for people of all walks of life to socialize, work quietly....ect." Ethnography often seeks to elucidate beyond what might/ or might not be obvious. (1-2 paragraphs)

2: Methodology. What did you do? See book chapter on cultural anthropology methods. What did you do to get the information your paper is based on... it is a good idea to use anthropology terms. (1-2 paragraphs).

3: Location. Where are you doing this project? History of space (from research, primary or secondary sources... cite).  Your own observations ect... (1-3 paragraphs).

4: Report your findings--> interpret/ evaluate the research.  Look for any emerging patterns, trends, beliefs or processes you have observed.  Use highlights from your field notes and interviews.  DO NOT JUST COPY PASTE NOTES.... rework them to communicate clearly, concisely, and direct... every sentence should have purpose.  RELEVANT/ IMPORTANT INFORMATION.   (3-4 pages).

5: Conclude... perhaps reiterating how you have addressed the objective set out in step 1.

6: Edit.  This is VERY IMPORTANT on this assignment.  Read paper out loud to yourself, does it flow, does it make sense, are you using the right word.... anthropology is not the same as anthology... ect...  Maybe have someone else read your paper and mark areas that are unclear ect...  Use resources available to you, IE writing center ect....
